The History of the Show

The first show held in Port Fairy was on 24 April 1854 on land on Bank Street. The Villiers and Heytesbury Agricultural Association established in 1853 held the show. This association later split and after several name changes, one part became the Port Fairy Agricultural, Pastoral, and Horticultural Society Incorporated, its current name.

The Agricultural and Pastoral Society of Australia Felix, was formed in New South Wales in the area now known as Victoria and held its one and only show in January 1840, in the Melbourne area. In the 1850’s about five agricultural and pastoral societies were established in Victoria.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

It is showtime again and I welcome you all to the 2023 Port Fairy Agricultural Show. This year we again have a large range of exhibits, rides and attractions for all members of the family to enjoy.

Last year two of our exhibitors, one in the Cross Stitch Class and one in the Photography Class, went on to win their respective Class in the South West Regional Competition. The Regional win qualified them to enter their exhibits at State level at the Melbourne Royal Show.  Congratulations to both these exhibitors. This is an indication of the high caliber of talented people in the Port Fairy district and the quality of the work entered in the Port Fairy Show each year.

I again thank all the Committee Members for the hard work and long hours they have put in during the year to keep the grounds and building so well maintained.  We are lucky to have such a dedicated Committee who care so much about the Show.  I would like to welcome Judy Artis as a new Committee Member and I am sure Judy will become a very valued member of the team.

During the year Erin Klose and Alanna Hansford were unanimously voted as Life Members of the Show Society because of the many years each of them has been involved with the Show and the
long hours and commitment they have given over those years. Congratulations to you both.

I also wish to thank all the Stewards and Volunteers who again this year have given up their time to make the Show such a special day.  Also, a big thank you to our Sponsors who continue to give their support without which we would not be able to provide such a fun day.

Show Gallery 2022

Sunday 12 February 2023

The Port Fairy AP&H Society held its Annual General Meeting on Sunday 12th February.  All positions that were vacant were dually filled, with congratulations from President Eveline on a productive 2022 and a great Show after 2 years absence due to Covid. Following the meeting, Isabel McLaren was honoured for her long support of the Port Fairy Show, by having the Kitchen in the Frank King Pavilion named after her.  Isabel's support of the show began with her parents, who also supported the Show back in the day with them helping whenever needed.  Isabel's catering skills have come to the fore, with her organising Sheepdog trials meals and Cycling Club catering on Showday.  Her sponge cakes and rock cakes are legendary around the Showgrounds, and the Committee unanimously agreed there couldn't be a more worthy recipient of such an honour.

Isabel McLaren
Well done Isabel!!!!!

For anyone interested in joining the committee, our next meeting is on Sunday the 18th of April at 11 am in the Dining room in the Frank King Pavilion.
